Pro Bowl 1994

NFC 17 - AFC 3
(February 6, 1994)

The 1994 Pro Bowl was, simply put, a defensive masterpiece for the NFC. There were 50,026 in the stands at Aloha Stadium. The coaches were George Seifert of San Francisco and Marty Schottenheimer of Kansas City.

The scoring started in the first quarter as Atlanta’s Norm Johnson kicked a 35 yard field goal. It was the only score of the quarter and was matched in the second quarter by a 25 yard field by Gary Anderson of Pittsburgh at 1:09 before the half. The halftime score was 3-3.

Late in the third quarter, Bobby Hebert of Atlanta led the NFC on a drive and rookie Jerome Bettis of the Los Angeles Rams carried the ball over from the four following a blocked punt to give the NFC a 10-3 lead. On the drive, Hebert connected with Atlanta teammate Andre Rison on a 32 yard pass. In the fourth quarter, Minnesota’s John Randle stripped the ball from Houston’s Warren Moon and Richard Dent of the Bears fell on it at the AFC 19. Hebert then hit Chris Carter of the Vikings with a 15 yard scoring strike to round out the scoring. Two interceptions were key in the final minutes. Chicago’s Donnell Woolford picked off a pass from Boomer Esiason of the Jets with 4:30 remaining to stop a drive. And, the Falcon’s Deion Sanders again intercepted Esiason in the end zone with :14 left to seal the victory. The final was 17-3.

Rison caught 6 passes for 86 yards and was the player of the game. The NFC kept the AFC out of the end zone with ball possession of more than 38 minutes and forced six turnovers.
